This weekend, the calendar calls it a long weekend.
But for many of us, it’s just a different kind of busy.

Between planning, prepping, hosting or being the guest who brings the good dessert, it’s easy to feel like you’re carrying the Mother Load, the invisible to-do list that never really turns off. The one that hums in the background, making sure everything runs, everyone’s cared for, and nothing falls apart.

And it’s not just this weekend—it’s every week.

We carry the emotional weather of our homes, the unspoken details of work, the endless “what’s for dinner?” and “did I sign that form?” loop. We’re the glue, the scheduler, the steady heartbeat that keeps it all moving forward.

And yes, we’re grateful and fortunate. But we’re also tired.

When I’ve had just about enough, sometimes the last thing I want to do is think about what I’m putting on that day.

So here’s to the small wardrobe wins that lighten the load, even just a little:

Happy Feet

When I’m running on fumes but still have a full day ahead, I often get dressed from the ground up. On those days, I reach for my “happy shoes”, the ones I know will carry me through ten hours without regret or a single wince. I recommend a great loafer; it adds a little lift and a lot of comfort.

La Canadienne has some great styles that are also shearling-lined, which provide an extra layer of comfort when you need it.

Here are flats to invest in now to carry you through long days.

Machine-Washable Styles

Sometimes the best kind of luxury is the kind that doesn’t require a dry cleaner. These are the pieces that meet you where you’re at—soft enough for comfort, structured enough to look like you’ve got it all together. They’re what you reach for when the day starts early, runs long, and still needs a touch of polish.

A few brands that reliably carry machine-washable styles include Marc Cain and Repeat.

Versatile Essentials

The backbone of every wardrobe—and every woman’s sanity. Think trousers that fit just right, a shirt that always looks sharp, and a blazer that moves with you from client meetings to carpool lines. When your clothes work with you instead of against you, it’s one less decision in a day already full of them.

Here are some of the essentials I reach for over and over again.

And if it all feels like a lot because it is, that’s where we come in. Sometimes you just need an extra hand, whether it’s having your stylist curate your wardrobe for the season, making it work for your lifestyle, or doing a full deep dive with a Closet Edit to make getting dressed effortless again.

Because even if the turkey’s overcooked, the emails are waiting, and the list never ends, you’re still doing it all, and doing it beautifully.

So go easy on yourself. You have so much to be proud of.

xo, Lisa
